What ‘Cha Gonna Do When They Come for You?

On February 22, 2024, Laken Riley, an American nursing student at Augusta University, was brutally murdered by an illegal alien while jogging at the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia.   The suspect, José Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan, had entered the United States illegally in September 2022.

Kayla Hamilton, 20 Years Old: “One of the year’s most publicized murder cases occurred in July 2022, when 20-year-old Kayla Marie Hamilton was found dead in her residence in Aberdeen, Maryland. In January of this year, police got a major break in the case when they arrested a 17-year-old illegal alien MS-13 gang member from El Salvador for Hamilton’s murder.”

What do these murders have in common?   They are senseless, unprovoked and reflect an evil uprising of criminals that have been allowed to enter our country illegally.

What happened to the time when you could walk the streets and feel safe, go to a parade and not worry about being mowed down by a truck or enjoy an outing at the mall without thinking about becoming the next victim?

Violent criminals are pouring across our borders, liberal judges are releasing offenders onto the streets, and the surge of mental health issues are all adding to an environment that fosters more crime.

If this sounds like gloom and doom, you are spot on.  The country has gone mad and given our current state of affairs, it will likely only get worse. Even if we stood up today and said “enough,” voted in officials that share our American Values and appointed more conservative judges who would uphold their oath to administer justice, change will not happen quickly.  In the meantime, people need to wake up to the increasing threat and take action.   We are not in Kansas anymore!

Here are a couple of things that you can do to improve your odds of not becoming the next crime statistic.

First I encourage everyone to practice situational awareness.   Situational awareness means you are aware of what is happening around you in terms of where you are and whether anyone or anything around you is a threat to your health and safety.  It’s doing things like scanning the parking lot for potential threats before heading to your car or being aware of who is around you as you jog. I liken it to “defensive driving”; always alert to what the other person might do.

Second, you should have a plan.  What will you do if you suddenly find yourself in a threatening situation on the street? In a store? In a parking lot? At home? Is your plan to run, scream and hope someone comes to your rescue?   How will you react?  What are your options?  Said another way, “What cha’ gonna do when they come for you?”

Maybe it’s time for you to figure out your plan.  Just GOOGLE self-defense and you will find a myriad of online resources and options to consider from enrolling in a self-defense course, carrying pepper spray, sporting a key chain alarm or arming yourself.

If you are like me, it’s unnerving to realize that we are at a point in society where we must plan and prepare for the unthinkable.  But until we turn things around, we’ll need to step up our game and take action to minimize our chances of becoming the next media headline.

And that’s The Wicked Truth!
